Christian Löffler, an electronic and techno producer, crafts emotive and melancholic soundscapes that evoke isolation while remaining oddly relatable. He established Ki Records with a collaborator and began issuing melodic techno EPs in 2009, delivering his first full-length statement via 2012's A Forest. Later works such as Mare (2016) and Lys (2020) integrated greater acoustic instrumentation and vocal elements, while 2021's Parallel: Shellac Reworks blended techno with modern classical forms. His 2024 album A Life further honed this aesthetic, presenting some of his most direct and approachable material to date.

Löffler first developed a passion for music at age 14, bypassing guitar in favor of computer-based programming and arrangement. Much of his sonic character derives from the Darß peninsula in Germany, the region of his upbringing and ongoing residence. Working from his relatively secluded studio, he mastered assorted software and instruments through self-instruction while also cultivating photography and amassing an extensive library of field recordings. For years he created music purely for personal expression, until a longtime friend proposed launching a label in 2008. The pair founded Ki Records and introduced it with Löffler's debut EP, Heights. He maintained a near-annual schedule of EPs on the imprint thereafter, with the 2015 New York EP on U.K.-based label 20:20 Vision standing as a notable departure. His debut album, 2012's A Forest on Ki Records, included contributions from Danish singer Gry Bagøien and German singer Mohna, the latter frequently appearing alongside Löffler in live settings.

Mare, his second full-length album, arrived in 2016 and adopted a more organic stance by emphasizing self-recorded instruments and field recordings over the sample-driven methods of the first record. Mare (Club Mixes) and Mare Reworks both surfaced in 2017, followed by the mini-album Graal (Prologue) in 2019. The wintry full-length Lys appeared in 2020, succeeded by the widely streamed non-album track "Ronda." Parallels: Shellac Reworks, containing reinterpretations of works by classical composers including Beethoven and Chopin, was issued by Deutsche Grammophon in 2021. Löffler returned to Ki Records for the 2022 single "Solo," which preceded "Fjäll" (featuring Fejká) and "New Fires" (with Henry Green). Additional polished and accessible pieces followed, among them 2023's "Envy" (with Mogli) and 2024's "Ease," ahead of the album A Life.
