Biography
Operating out of Cardiff just west of London, Darkhouse Family comprises Earl Jeffers (also known as Che Ahmed, Metabeats, and Chesus) alongside Don Leisure (aka Aly Jamal or Jamal). Their productions merge unconventional beat construction with a fusion of programmed electronics and live performance that echoes the broken beat movement originating in West London. The pair first appeared together on the Fat City label via the Family Trees EP in 2010. After a split 12" alongside C.R.S.T. that included a Jeffers contribution, they delivered the In & Out EP in 2012 and the Brockwild EP in 2014, both issued on Earnest Endeavors. Om'Mas Keith from Sa-Ra appeared on the opening track "Take on the World" from the In & Out EP, a cut later selected by BBC DJ Gilles Peterson for the eighth Brownswood Bubblers compilation. Their subsequent shift to the First Word label aligned with a stronger emphasis on live instrumentation, introduced on the Solid Gold EP in 2016 and extended on the duo's debut album The Offering in 2017.
