Biography
Born in Dallas, TX, during 1952, Darrell Nulisch absorbed the sounds of Otis Redding and Al Green while growing up, prompting him to develop his own vocal approach along similar lines. A founding member of Anson Funderburgh’s Rockets, he performed with the band throughout the 1980s and also appeared alongside Ronnie Earl’s Broadcasters during that decade. In 1991 he departed Texas to pursue a solo path, settling in Boston and issuing recordings that highlighted his exceptional blues-harmonica technique together with his expressive singing. When legendary soul singer James Cotton temporarily lost his voice, he invited Nulisch to join his touring ensemble, granting the vocalist an opportunity to collaborate with an artist he revered. Nulisch sustained his independent work into the following decade, issuing the critically acclaimed I Like It That Way during spring 2000.
