Biography
Hailing from Canada, saxophonist Darren Rahn has built a reputation as a sought-after performer and producer whose work favors groove-centered contemporary jazz. Born in British Columbia to a musical household, he spent his formative years playing in his parents’ gospel group. Following high school he completed his bachelor’s studies at Adams State University, then obtained a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Settling in Denver, he launched parallel paths as a solo recording artist and independent producer. Beginning in the mid-’90s he accumulated extensive studio credits alongside Dave Koz, Jonathan Butler, Najee, Bob James, Kirk Whalum, Eric Darius, Jeffrey Osborne, and Jeff Lorber. On his own, Rahn has issued several favorably received albums: Once in a Lifetime in 2005, Talk of the Town in 2009, and Speechless in 2012. His 2016 release, Sonic Boom, included contributions from Rick Braun, Robin Eubanks, and additional guests.
