Kylee Kimbrough created Dasher to merge her explosive drumming and vocals, drawing from Patti Smith, shoegaze, and Japanese hardcore to shape a raw strain of post-punk. After years playing in Atlanta punk outfits including the Wild, Knaves Grave, and Abby GoGo, she launched the project in 2010 specifically to release her own material. Naming it after a blender blade, Kimbrough formed the initial lineup with bassist Ian Deaton and Abby GoGo guitarist Jon Allinson. That group cut the 2013 demo tape Yeah I Know, which highlighted her direct drum approach and delay-treated vocals; Scavenger of Death later reissued the recording. Dasher also released the single Go Rambo/Time Flies that year on Die Slaughterhouse Records. Suicide Squeeze followed with the single Soviet/Teeth in 2014. After signing with Jagjaguwar, Kimbrough moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where she managed her high-functioning autism diagnosis while assembling the full band. With guitarists Steve Garcia and Derek McCain plus bassist Gary Magilla, Dasher tracked the debut album Sodium, which Jagjaguwar issued in July 2017.
