Born in England in 1942, the singer/songwriter relocated to Canada at age sixteen. Several years performing across Toronto’s folk circuit preceded his westward shift to Calgary and Vancouver, where the solo recording David Wiffen Live at the Bunkhouse appeared in 1965. Time spent with the Pacers and the Children, whose lineup included Bruce Cockburn and Randy Patterson, led him to Three’s a Crowd. An executive from Fantasy offered Wiffen a solo contract after hearing the band during a New York engagement. The self-titled debut album followed in 1971 and was succeeded by Coast to Coast Fever in 1973, the latter re-released in 1994. Subsequent recognition has centered on his poetry and other writings.
