Davka

Adam Levenson on doumbek and zarb joins Daniel Hoffman on violin and Moses Sedler on cello to form the ensemble Davka. Rooted in California's Bay Area, the trio fuses longstanding Jewish melodies with Middle Eastern pulses while merging jazz improvisation and classical precision. Regular appearances marked their presence across Berkeley and San Francisco, including one performance alongside Israeli pop star Noa. Expansion to remote stages began in 1995, resulting in multiple appearances at Toronto's annual Ashkenaz Festival of New Yiddish Culture, shows at New York's Knitting Factory, and a slot at a multicultural festival in West Virginia.
