The Mancunian Dave Shaw and the Parisian Dombrance created DBFC, whose initial underground impact arrived via the 2014 debut EP Leave My Room. Issued through Her Majesty's Ship—the same imprint that housed Shaw's solo house and new wave endeavor Dave Shaw and the Beat—the record reflected the duo's absorption of both the underground French club scene and the British shoegaze movement. By the close of 2014 the lineup had expanded into a quartet with the addition of Guillaume Rossel and Vincent Choquet, enabling a run of live appearances that encompassed a showcase at the renowned French festival Transmusicals. Throughout 2015 the group maintained a busy schedule of European festival and club engagements while issuing the singles Get It All and Staying Home. That year also brought a deal with Different Recordings, under whose auspices the band sustained its recording and touring activity, culminating in the 2016 release of the debut album Autonomic. First trailed in early 2017 by the single Sinner, the album fused the refinement of French electronica with the assertiveness of British guitar music. The follow-up Jenks appeared in mid-2017.
