Biography
Demolition Doll Rods built their reputation on raw, minimal rock delivered with an almost literal lack of clothing. The Detroit trashy trio specialized in unpretentious lo-fi garage rock while favoring performances in minimal attire and crafting deliberately provocative lyrics designed to provoke. Formed in the early '90s, the group later joined the roster of Matador Records and shared stages with Iggy Pop, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and the Cramps. According to lore, siblings Margaret Doll Rod on vocals and guitar and Christine Doll Rod on drums first encountered Danny Doll Rod, who handled guitar and vocals, during Catholic school before the three fled together. Following scattered singles and various compilation tracks, the band issued their debut full-length Tasty in 1997 via In the Red Records. Two years afterward they delivered T.L.A. through Matador and launched the cheekily titled Flaming Pasties tour, during which they also performed in G-strings. Moving to Swami, they put out On in spring 2004, the same period when Margaret Doll Rod issued her solo effort Enchanté. In March 2006 Tia "Baby Doll" Doll Rod took over drums once Christine stepped away to raise a family, and the group unveiled There Is a Difference that April.
