Biography
Derek Miller handles guitar and songwriting duties as a seasoned performer whose broad musical interests include a particular skill for weaving blues touches into roots rock. His birth took place in 1974 on the Six Nations of the Grand River, Mohawk Territory, in Canada, where an early-teen fascination with music took hold. By the late '90s he had toured with iconic Canadian vocalist Buffy Sainte-Marie and received a Canadian Aboriginal Music Award. He performed on and co-produced Keith Secola & the Wild Band's album Fingermonkey in 2000. The 2002 release of his debut album, Music Is the Medicine, brought him a Juno Award. Heavy touring after that breakthrough left Miller drained by 2005 and contending with drug and alcohol dependency. He then entered rehab and devoted roughly the next year to restoring his physical, mental, and spiritual health. His sophomore effort, The Dirty Looks, arrived in 2007.
