Biography
Hailing from Chicago, Devil in a Woodpile forges a bold strain of country-rock, weaving in ragtime accents, sultry jazz textures, and gritty blues to keep roots music a fluid and shifting form. The committed trio—frontman and multi-instrumentalist Rick "Cookin" Sherry, steel guitarist Paul K., and bassist Tom Ray—approaches the field with the raw commitment required to deliver substantive work. Steering clear of corporate-driven strategies, the band secured a contract with Bloodshot Records in the late 1990s and issued its self-titled debut album in 1998. The second release, Division Street, followed two years afterward.
