Elephant Revival came together in 2006 as a multi-genre-dabbling folk ensemble based in Nederland, Colorado. Five multi-instrumentalists joined forces at that time to shape a folk-rooted sound unafraid to draw from unexpected sources that ranged from jazz and traditional Celtic music to reggae, indie rock, and hip-hop rhythms. The founding lineup featured vocalist and auxiliary instrumentalist Bonnie Paine, bassist and vocalist Dango Rose, guitarist and electric banjo player Sage Cook, violinist and vocalist Bridget Law, and guitarist Daniel Rodriguez. Every member took part in shaping the group’s eclectic songwriting and vocal arrangements. After performing only occasionally for several years, the band released its self-titled debut album in 2008 and followed it with Break in the Clouds in 2010. The entirely analog-recorded EP It’s Alive appeared in 2012, with the third full-length These Changing Skies arriving a year later and Sands of Now following in 2015. Charlie Rose stepped in to replace Cook on banjo ahead of the quintet’s collaboration with producer Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter, Langhorne Slim) on the fifth album, Petals. That reflective collection, centered on themes of time, memory, and the life cycle, came out in 2016.
