Formed in Fukuoka in 2000, the Japanese garage rock trio Does features Wataru Ujihara on vocals and guitar, Yasushi Akatsuka on bass, and Kesaku Morita on drums. After several lineup shifts and a brief hiatus, the group stabilized and entered the studio for the first time in 2004, cutting the indie debut single "Outside" together with the EP Does. They kept issuing occasional singles and playing live shows on the independent circuit until 2006, when Ki/oon Records brought them aboard; their major-label bow arrived that year with the single "Ashita wa Kuru no Ka," followed by the full-length Newold. Headline concerts began in 2006 as well. The following year the band appeared at major festivals such as Rock in Japan and Rising Sun, issued the second album Subterranean Romance, and gained wider attention when "Shura" was chosen for the end credits of the anime series Gintama. Another Gintama placement came in 2008 for the single "Donten," which climbed to the Oricon Top Three; the same chart success greeted 2010’s "Bakuchi Dancer." The third album The World’s Edge arrived in 2009, and the compilation Singles followed in 2010.
