Biography
Hailing from D.C., the alt-metal outfit Dog Fashion Disco steers clear of refined aesthetics and mainstream musical currents alike. Its drive echoes the force found in Clutch, Tool, and Nothingface, emerging amid the punk resurgence of the new millennium. Frontman Todd D. Smith, guitarist Greg Combs, keyboardist Jeff Siegel, bassist Steve Mears, and drummer John Ensminger make up the lineup, which has shared stages with Methods of Mayhem, P.O.D., and Stone Temple Pilots. The group issued its debut, Anarchists of Good Taste, on Spitfire Records in early 2001. Two years afterward came Committed to a Bright Future, marking the last release under that label. November 2004 brought a new arrangement with Artemis Records as the band readied its initial concert recording. Captured at Fletcher's in Baltimore, Maryland, The City Is Alive Tonight: Live in Baltimore reached audiences in January 2005. Following the 2006 arrival of the sixth album, Adultery, Dog Fashion Disco declared its breakup. In the aftermath, Smith launched several side efforts alongside former members, among them Polkadot Cadaver, Knives Out!, and El-Creepo!. Guitarist Combs also put out fresh work through his project Celebrity Sex Scandal. Despite pursuing separate ventures, the musicians found it difficult to remain apart, staging occasional reunion performances before formally reconvening in 2013 to unveil plans for Sweet Nothings, which surfaced the next year.
