Biography
Emerging in the wake of the 2007 dissolution of long-running Rockville, Maryland experimental metal outfit Dog Fashion Disco, Polkadot Cadaver took shape. Fatigued by years of road work, former Dog Fashion Disco members Todd Smith and Jasan Stepp first developed musical ideas inside Stepp's home studio without any intention of public exposure. Before long, however, Stepp and Smith, together with drummer John Ensminger, obtained a record contract and returned to a professional facility to record Polkadot Cadaver's debut album Purgatory Dance Party, issued in late 2007. Polkadot Cadaver's songs echoed the experimental ethos of Dog Fashion Disco while traversing an eclectic range of alternative styles, shifting from grinding metal passages to restrained, unhinged folk pieces. The original trio finished their second album Sex Offender in 2011, after which lineup adjustments took place: Ensminger moved to a studio-only role and Scott Radway assumed live drumming duties. The group launched its own Razor to Wrist label to support kindred acts and to release its third album, Last Call in Jonestown, which appeared in May 2013. Brian White replaced David Cullen on bass for that record, since Cullen had joined only in 2008 and therefore missed the band's earliest recording sessions.
