Biography
Blending metal, dance-pop, and warped electronic textures, I Set My Friends on Fire generate a whirlwind collision of disparate styles and influences. Matt Mehana and Nabil Moo established the Miami, Florida outfit in 2007, and the group swiftly drew listeners through a version of Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” that broadcast their fragmented approach to a wider public. The duo issued the I Set My Friends on Fire EP in 2008; that release paved the way for a contract with Epitaph, which in turn yielded the full-length debut You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without Laughter. Drummer Chris Lent joined the lineup in 2009 and later assumed synthesizer and programming responsibilities after Moo exited in 2010. Toward the end of that same year the remaining members entered the studio alongside former From First to Last participant Travis Richter, resulting in the 2011 follow-up Astral Rejection.
