Biography
Within the gqom scene that emerged from Durban, South Africa, Dominowe ranks among its foremost figures. Like other producers working in the style, his productions generate a hypnotic, tense, and propulsive effect, methodically heightening anticipation through spare electronic pulses. The 2016 release Gqom Oh! The Sound of Durban, Vol. 1, which received widespread praise, opened with Dominowe’s “Africa’s Cry.” His debut EP, issued in 2017 under the title SiyaThakatha—Zulu for “black magic”—became the first release on the Gqom Oh! label devoted to a single artist.
