Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem

Since their 1975 arrival as the rowdy resident musicians for Jim Henson’s enduring puppet empire known as the Muppets, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem—frequently shortened to the Electric Mayhem—have supplied the franchise with its signature brand of chaotic energy. The lineup, modeled after leading rock and jazz figures of that era, consists of Dr. Teeth on vocals, Animal on drums, Janice handling vocals and lead guitar, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Zoot on saxophone, and Lips on trumpet. Their reputation rests on frenzied rock & roll behavior, an aversion to classical repertoire, and the brightly colored, psychedelic bus that later transformed into a van; these traits have carried the ensemble through countless Muppet movies, TV specials, and recordings from the mid-1970s onward. The group cemented its status inside “the Muppetverse” in 2023 by starring in the dedicated series The Muppets Mayhem. An identically titled studio album, blending covers with original material written by Linda Perry, followed later that year and became the first Muppets project ever to reach the summit of the Billboard Kid Albums chart.
