Biography
Outside devoted enthusiasts, it's little recognized that the impeccably wholesome television household of the early 1970s, the Brady Bunch, released multiple albums while the series remained on the air. As might be anticipated, the material came either from staff songwriters or from renditions of prior hits, resulting in nothing more substantial than airy pop confections, evident on 1970's Merry Christmas, 1972's Meet the Brady Bunch and The Kids From the Brady Bunch, and 1973's The Brady Bunch Phonographic Album, where the young cast members deliver undistinguished versions of well-known songs including "American Pie," "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo," "Saturday in the Park," and "Summer Breeze." Anyone seeking the strongest overview of their recorded output need only turn to the 20-track compilation It's a Sunshine Day: The Best of the Brady Bunch, which appeared in 1993. During the late 1990s, Barry Williams, the actor who portrayed eldest son Greg Brady, put out the novelty record The Return of Johnny Bravo, drawing on the teen-idol persona that Greg Brady briefly adopted in one episode of the series.
