Biography
Hailing from southeast London’s Lewisham borough, U.K. grime rapper Elf Kid represented the Pepys Estate housing project where he grew up. As part of the grime crew the Square, he unleashed cheeky, flirtatious, and boast-filled rhymes at a dizzying pace. The Square issued several EPs ahead of its 2014 full-length mixtape The Formula. On the track “Our Flowz,” Elf Kid portrayed himself as “the grimiest brat,” among other self-descriptions. That energetic and witty persona spotlighted him as a solo artist, leading to projects such as the EP The Return of Zelda, recorded with Square member and producer Lolingo, and a 2015 single built around Jamie xx’s “Oh Gosh.” Early in 2016 Elf Kid issued the single “Golden Boy,” which sampled Amerie’s 2005 hit “1 Thing.”
