Biography

The R&B/pop singer EMI, based in Seattle, keeps a low personal profile and lets her recordings stand in for direct introductions. Out of apparent obscurity, she arrived in 2016 via the debut single “Phantom,” whose brooding sonics and spectral delivery quickly built online momentum. The next year brought the full-length Planet, assembled with contributions from producers Nav, Charlie Handsome, Sevn Thomas (Rihanna, Drake, Kanye), and Rex Kudo (Post Malone, Mac Miller). Crafted to open a window onto EMI’s routine, the mixtape ranges across the daily grind of hustling and the complexities of personal relationships.
