Violinist Esther Hoppe maintains an active profile equally as a solo performer, a participant in chamber ensembles, and an instructor. Her professional path opened after she captured the top award at the International Mozart Violin Competition held in Salzburg, Austria, during 2002.

Born March 4, 1978, in Zug, Switzerland, Hoppe began her training at the Music Academy of Basel under Thomas Füri before advancing to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where Robert Mann and Ida Kavafian served as her primary mentors. Additional studies took her to the Guildhall School of Music in London with Yfrah Neaman and to Zurich for work with Nora Chastain. The Salzburg success led to further competition victories for the Tecchler Trio, the group she established, among them first place at the International ARD-Competition in Munich in 2007. Between 2009 and 2013 she held the post of first concertmaster with the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Her initial recording, issued in 2013 on the album Tobias PM Schneid: New Works, featured the Tecchler Trio. The following year marked her first solo release, a program of violin-and-piano pieces by Mozart and Stravinsky performed with pianist Alasdair Beatson and issued by Claves.

Hoppe has appeared across Europe, the United States, Japan, and India in prominent venues that include Wigmore Hall in London, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, the Wiener Konzerthaus, and Salamanca Hall in Gifu, Japan. As a dedicated chamber musician she has worked with fortepianist Ronald Brautigam, cellist Christian Poltéra, and the Auryn Quartett. She appears regularly as a guest with the Swiss Chamber Soloists and has maintained an ongoing partnership with composer and oboist Heinz Holliger. Her commitment to new music has included giving the first performances of works by Holliger, Harrison Birtwistle, and Elliott Carter. She returns frequently to festivals throughout Switzerland and Austria. Additional joint recordings with Beatson appeared on Claves, and in 2022 she issued a solo album of Bach’s partitas and sonatas for unaccompanied violin on the same label. Since 2013 she has held a professorship in violin at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
