Eugene Wilde

Ron Broomfield, known to audiences as Eugene Wilde, looked poised for superstardom during the middle of the 1980s. This Miami vocalist, once affiliated with Life, delivered a rich, commanding tone paired with an assured stage presence. Recording for Philly W. Records, he landed R&B chart-toppers in both 1984 and 1985. Although “Gotta Get You Home Tonight” and “Don’t Say No Tonight” relied on familiar themes, their polished production and his suggestive, emotionally charged delivery gave them lasting appeal. He returned to the Top Ten in 1986 with “Diana,” but a shift to MCA quickly eroded his forward progress. Wilde next fronted Cabo Frio on the Zebra/MCA album and mounted one final, unsuccessful bid with I Choose You Tonight in 1989.
