Eva Eastwood, a Swedish singer and songwriter, cultivates a retro aesthetic spanning rockabilly, rock & roll, and traditional country modeled on the Nashville sound. Her recording career began with an album in 2001, yet she did not reach the upper tiers of the Swedish charts until 2008, when her sixth long-player, Well Well Well, climbed to number two. Born Eva Östlunds in 1967 in Örebro, Sweden, she names Melanie Safka, Ruth Brown, and J.J. Cale among her formative influences and drew additional impetus from repeated visits to the Nashville music community before entering the industry. In 1999 Tail Records extended her a contract; she assembled the backing group the Major Keys, whose original lineup featured Jyrki Juvonen on guitar, Frank Snow on piano, Jan Östlund on bass, and Tage Phikkanen on drums, and issued her first album, Good Things Can Happen, that same year. Tail Records subsequently released The Good Life I Have (2001), Hot Chicks & Cool Cats (2001), Roots Revival (2003), and En Ny Stil i Stan (2004). The last of these, her initial effort in Swedish, became her first genuine commercial success after she appeared on the television program Allsång På Skansen in 2005. With mainstream visibility secured, Eastwood moved to Bonnier Music and placed Ton of Heart (2006), an English-language return, inside the Swedish Top 30. Well Well Well (2008) marked her greatest achievement to that point, buoyed by the single “My My My,” and confirmed her emergence as a notable figure in Swedish music.
