Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, American punk-pop trio Eve 6 issued two albums that reached platinum and gold status—Eve 6 and Horrorscope—while landing three Top 40 singles, one of which, the chart-topping “Inside Out,” defined their breakthrough. After releasing 2003’s It’s All in Your Head the group split up, yet returned to the road in 2007 with a revised lineup before restoring the original trio in 2012 for the long-delayed fourth album Speak in Code; another full decade elapsed before Hyper Relevisation arrived in 2022.

Founders guitarist Jon Siebels and bassist/vocalist Max Collins secured a contract with RCA Records while still in high school in La Crescenta, a neighborhood in northern Los Angeles. Operating at first as Eleventeen, the band spent three years shaping their debut and brought in drummer Tony Fagenson during that period, an extended timeline dictated by RCA’s requirement that the members finish secondary school before any material could be released. While awaiting the eventual 1998 album, Eve 6 refined their sound through shows at local coffeehouses.

The lead single “Inside Out” from the self-titled debut ascended to number one on the modern rock chart in 1998, knocking the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” from the top spot. “Leech” also connected with listeners, helping drive the platinum-certified record. Two years later Horrorscope followed and earned gold status on the strength of “Promise” together with the power ballad “Here’s to the Night,” the latter becoming a Top 40 and MTV staple as well. Eve 6 circled the globe on tour throughout 2000 and 2001 while composing songs for It’s All in Your Head, which surfaced in mid-2003. Despite modest traction from the single “Think Twice,” sales remained tepid, leading RCA Records to drop the band in March 2004; shortly afterward the members announced their breakup, closing the chapter with a final show that July.

Siebels later joined Monsters Are Waiting on guitar, while Collins and Fagenson resurfaced in mid-2006 with the new project the Sugi Tap. In 2007 they recruited guitarist Matt Bair and shelved the Sugi Tap to tour as Eve 6 the next year. By 2011, with Siebels back in the fold, new songs, and fresh management, the group officially reunited and signed with Fearless Records. Speak in Code, produced by Don Gilmore—the same producer behind the band’s first two albums—appeared in April 2012. Longtime drummer Tony Fagenson exited in 2018, opening the drum chair for Ben Hilzinger (Beautiful Ben, Unmistakable Stems), who made his recorded debut with the band on the 2021 EP Grim Value. Finally, in September 2022, a decade after their previous full-length, Eve 6 delivered their fifth studio album, Hyper Relevisation.
