Biography
The New Radicals came together as a pop/rock outfit toward the end of the 1990s, yet their sound drew deeply from the rock and soul of the 1970s. The project was spearheaded by Gregg Alexander, a singer, producer, and songwriter originally from Grosse Point, Michigan, just outside Detroit. During his childhood in Michigan, Alexander absorbed both rock and R&B in large quantities and picked up his first electric guitar at age 12. Once he finished high school, he roamed the country and spent time living in New York and Los Angeles. In L.A. he assembled the New Radicals, who landed a deal with MCA in 1997 and promptly recorded Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too, a 1970s-inspired album issued in October 1998. Alexander handled every production and arrangement task while writing nearly all the material on what remained the group’s only release. After the success of the hit single “You Get What You Give,” he dissolved the New Radicals to concentrate on production work.
