American rock outfit Deep Blue Something fuses alternative rock textures with melodic pop hooks and post-grunge edge. Their lasting reputation rests chiefly on the multi-platinum single "Breakfast at Tiffany's," drawn from the gold-certified second album Home. That worldwide hit climbed to number one in the U.K. and landed inside the U.S. Top Three. Following the 1998 release Byzantium and the self-titled album of 2001, the group disbanded. More than ten years afterward the founding lineup reconvened, delivering the Locust House EP in 2015 before issuing further singles throughout the 2020s such as "Don't Stop" and "Cherry Lime Rickey."

Four University of North Texas students in Denton, just northwest of Dallas, launched the band in 1991: Todd Pipes on vocals and bass, his brother Toby on guitar and vocals, Clay Bergus on guitar, and John Kirtland on drums. Bergus exited prior to the debut recording, whereupon Kirk Tatom stepped in. Their first album, 11th Song, surfaced in 1993. The follow-up, Home, emerged on the independent RainMaker imprint in October 1994 and showcased markedly improved production. Bolstered by that record, Deep Blue Something secured a deal with Interscope, which issued a revised edition of the album in June 1995 and promoted the single "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Although the members identified as an alternative act, the track broke through as a pop hit, reaching the Top Five of the U.S. Hot 100 before year’s end. It simultaneously topped the charts in Scotland and the U.K. while ranking among the Top Ten across Europe, North America, and Australia.

Despite Home attaining gold status, Byzantium took years to materialize. After parting from Interscope, Tatom departed and Bergus rejoined. Although work on the third album had already begun, repeated obstacles postponed its release until it appeared only in Japan and select European markets. The band then signed with Aezra, an EMI subsidiary, and put out the self-titled Deep Blue Something in 2001. That collection contained five tracks from Byzantium plus eight fresh recordings. Soon after its arrival the group entered a hiatus lasting more than a decade, during which the members produced other artists, released solo work, formed additional projects, and launched record labels. In 2014 Todd, Toby, Kirtland, Tatom, and Bergus all reconvened.

Their return was marked by the Locust House EP, released in 2015. Subsequent standalone singles, among them "Hide," "Don't Stop," and "Cherry Lime Rickey," sustained activity into the following decade.
