Biography
An Atlanta-based trio drawn from the pop-metal outfit SouthGang, Marvelous 3 earned widespread critical praise in 1999 on the strength of its breakthrough single “Freak of the Week.” The group had come together two years earlier and already issued the albums Math and Other Problems and Hey! Album, placing itself alongside Everclear, Foo Fighters, and Buckcherry as another high-energy, rollicking pop-rock act. The band soon became a fixture on MTV and secured support slots alongside Collective Soul and blink-182. While riding this early wave of attention, frontman Butch Walker continued sharpening his craft, co-writing “Right Now” for Maryland’s SR-71—an early sign of the production and songwriting career that would later flourish. Slug and Jayce Fincher rounded out the lineup, which also appeared in fashion campaigns for Calvin Klein and Abercrombie & Fitch before issuing ReadySexGo! upon returning home in 2000. The following year the trio parted ways with Elektra Records by choice and dissolved shortly thereafter. Walker subsequently launched a solo career while producing tracks for high-profile artists including Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry.
