Biography
With an adaptable touch on guitar, Fareed Haque weaves classical foundations together with his affinity for multiple jazz idioms across his own releases. Born and raised in Chicago, he spent his early years journeying widely alongside his parents, who hailed from Pakistan and Chile, an experience that left traces of international folk traditions audible in his technique. His formal training included jazz studies at North Texas State University and classical instruction at Northwestern University in Chicago. Haque cut two albums alongside Paquito D'Rivera and shared stages with Tito Puente, Toots Thielemans, and Von Freeman, among additional collaborators. He launched his career as a bandleader on Sting’s short-lived Pangaea imprint in 1988, later issuing several projects on Blue Note, touring alongside Joe Zawinul, and appearing with Straight Ahead, Joey Calderazzo, Renee Rosnes, and Dianne Reeves, among further associates.
