Biography
Fiddlers' Bid have built a reputation around their energetic and forceful style of Scottish fiddling. Based in Shetland, Scotland’s northernmost point, the group centers on four young fiddlers: Maurice Henderson, Andrew Gifford, Kevin Henderson, and Christopher Stout. Steve Yarrington on guitar, Dave Coles on bass, and Catriona McKay on piano and Scottish harp complete the lineup. These supporting instruments shape the ensemble’s distinctive character, supplying power and range to a repertoire that mixes traditional pieces with original jigs, reels, and airs. The band issued one independent album before joining the Scotland-based Greentrax label. Their debut Greentrax release, the 1998 album Hamnataing, sparked an intensive international touring schedule that took them across Europe and the United States.
