British indie pop supergroup FIZZ unites four singer/songwriters whose arty, theatrical approach draws on folk traditions. The collective surfaced in 2023 with its first full-length release, Secret to Life.

The quartet came together in 2021, bringing Irish singer/songwriter Orla Gartland, English singer/songwriter Dodie, Welsh singer/songwriter Greta Isaac, and English singer/songwriter Martin Luke Brown into a single project. Before forming the group, each member had already built a separate career; both Gartland and Dodie reached the U.K. Top Ten on the strength of their initial solo albums, while Isaac and Brown attracted notice for a distinctive, wry strain of indie folk. Shortly after the COVID-19 lockdown lifted, Dodie, Isaac, and Brown shared a house, with Gartland living close by. With solo schedules paused, the four began informal jamming sessions whose sole guiding principle was enjoyment. Multiple recording dates at Middle Farm Studios in South Devon produced the band’s debut album, Secret to Life, issued in 2023. Led by the single “High on Brighton,” the record highlighted the group’s vividly colored, ’70s-styled folk-pop.
