Folque emerged in 1973 as Norway’s answer to the folk-rock outfit Steeleye Span, delivering a powerful, resonant tone rooted in both Norse mythological traditions and English folk material. The ensemble dissolved in 1984, only to reconvene eight years later as a four-piece acoustic group that revisited its earlier catalog in unadorned, back-to-basics fashion. From the 1970s onward into the new millennium the lineup has included Jørn Jensen (vocals/guitar/dulcimer), Trond Øverland (bass/piano), Trond Villa (fiddle), Lisa Helljesen (vocals), Eilif Amundsen (banjo/guitar), Morten Bing (mandolin/dulcimer/bouzouki), Lars Helljesen (vocals/guitar), Morten Jakobsen (drums), Jenn E. Mortensen (vocals), Øyvind Rauset (fiddle), Per Vestaby (bass), Pål Søvik (drums), Jan Devik (bass), Roald Thommesen (bass), Truls Tambs-Lyche (bass), and Espen Løvstad (percussion).
