Originating from Amsterdam, Netherlands, where Franciscus Halsema came into the world on September 1, 1939, Frans Halsema built a Dutch singing career that spanned cabaret, pop, ballads, and musical theater. His work stretched from the 1960s through his passing in the early 1980s. He launched his path performing cabaret in the first years of that decade. By the second half of the 1960s he moved into recording, most prominently teaming with fellow Dutch singer Gerard Cox for the album Met Blijdschap Geven Wij Kennis in 1969.

The 1970s marked his highest commercial period, during which he reunited with Cox for Wat Je Zegt Ben Je Zelf in 1974 and reached audiences with the 1977 hit single “Vluchten Kan Niet Meer,” a duet shared with Jenny Arean. He stayed musically engaged into the early 1980s, even as his recording profile had faded before his death on February 24, 1984. After that date, several greatest-hits collections appeared, including Frans Halsema 1939-1984 in 1984, Voor Haar in 1994, Frans Halsema en Gerard Cox Voor Altijd in 2003, and Springlevend in 2009.
