Biography
Chris Alfaro, working as a producer and DJ, founded the Free the Robots project in 2003 to explore sample-heavy, left-field hip-hop in the manner of Flying Lotus and Daedelus. The self-released LP Prototype served as its first outing in 2005, with Alpha Pup Records issuing the second album, Ctrl Alt Del, in 2010. Alfaro next concentrated on releases under his own name, linking up with Busdriver and Glitch Mob, before Free the Robots reemerged via the 2013 album The Balance. He collaborated with Hieroglyphics and Souls of Mischief MC Opio on the 2015 album Sempervirens.
