Residing in Berlin, Frank Schültge Blumm characterizes his approach as that of an "ear worker" while crafting elaborate and exploratory compositions that blend numerous acoustic and electronic tools. He entered the world in Bremen on July 16, 1968, and pursued studies encompassing music art, educational science, and classical guitar. Early efforts centered on noise as a form of rebellion against his classical guitar background, yet his output grew more organized after radio plays captured his interest. Relocating to Berlin in 1997 expanded his collaborative circle, most prominently through the Sack & Blumm project alongside Harald "Sack" Ziegler, while German radio stations began airing his plays nationwide. Prior releases had already appeared on Staubgold, Gefriem, and Audio Dregs when Mondkuchen arrived in 2001, marking one of the first "acoustic" albums on Morr Music at a time when the label primarily issued electronic material. Staubgold followed with the dreamy Ankern in 2002, after which he returned to Morr Music for Zweite Meer in 2005 and Summer Kling in 2006, the latter year also seeing Audio Dregs issue Lichten. Further partnerships emerged, among them a 2007 recording with trumpeter Luca Fadda, singles alongside Anne Laplantine and David Grubbs, and an album with vocalist Jana Plewa under the name Old Splendifolia. Two albums materialized with Ellinor Blixt, known as Bobby Baby, via the Bobby & Blumm moniker, while Blumm joined Fadda and Jason Candler in the reggae-inspired Quasi Dub Development project. He likewise launched a sequence of experimental albums together with famed German pianist Nils Frahm. The solo full-length Up Up and Astray surfaced on Pingipung in 2013, after which the label put out his subsequent collaborations with Springintgut (The Bird and White Noise) and Hey (Riddims and Biscuits). Karaoke Kalk released Welcome in 2017, an album of laid-back, intimate electro-acoustic indie pop.
