Fuzzbubble emerged as a contemporary power pop outfit whose sound evoked the classic stylings of Cheap Trick and the Beatles, along with Nirvana’s melodic side during the Cobain era. Formed by Mark DiCarlo, Jim Bacchi, Jason Camiolo, and Brett Rothfeld, the quartet first attracted attention in 1997 after rap mogul Sean Combs added them to his Bad Boy roster, marking them as among the label’s earliest non-hip hop signings. Their profile rose quickly when they contributed to Combs’s 1997 hit “It’s All about the Benjamins,” while their own tracks “Out There” and “Ordinary” surfaced on the Godzilla Motion Picture Soundtrack and the television series Felicity, respectively. The band’s trajectory grew uneven, however, leading to their departure from Bad Boy in 2000. That same year they aligned with the Orchard label, which released the self-titled debut produced by Mike Clink and featuring guest appearances by Susanna Hoffs of ex-Bangles and Roger Manning of ex-Jellyfish. In 2002 the label followed with the compilation Demos, Outtakes and Rarities.
