Biography
Before Trust and Telephone rose to prominence, Ganafoul stood among France’s strongest hard rock acts. The trio of Jack Bon (vocals/guitar), Jean Yves Astier (bass/vocals) and Yves Rotacher (drums) built its sound on the 12-bar blues boogie that Status Quo had made its own, yet delivered the style with greater force by folding in the raw rhythmic punch of early punk. Following the band’s 1977 debut, the raw yet combustible Side 3, Rotacher stepped aside and Bernard Antoine took over on drums, bringing greater percussive range. Later Crypto Records releases stayed within the same narrow but fiercely executed hard-rock framework, earning steady support on the French club scene of the late 1970s.
