Biography
Greg Dalton, recording as Gary War, produces a distinctive strain of warped garage-synth-prog pop shaped by Chrome and Syd Barrett yet propelled by a personal sense of drive. The project’s first album, New Raytheonport, appeared in 2008 via SHDWPLY/Disaro as a run of only 500 copies and offered listeners the most psychedelic edition of the material together with an Alan Parsons Project cover. War followed that release with an especially busy 2009 that brought four shorter works on Captured Tracks, Sacred Bones, and Hell Yes! Records plus the well-received second album Horribles Parade. The Police Water EP surfaced in 2010; afterward Dalton paused to prepare a third album and to develop the side project Human Teenager alongside Taylor Richardson, previously known for Infinity Window with Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin. Human Teenager’s Animal Husbandry reached listeners in early 2012 on Spectrum Spools, the label operated by Emeralds’ John Elliott. The same imprint also put out War’s third album, Jared’s Lot, in July 2012. Once that record was out, Dalton traveled through Asia and New Zealand before returning to the United States, where he performed alongside Bobb Trimble and formed the psych duo Dalthom with Sunburned Hand of the Man’s Rob Thomas. Dalton revived the Gary War name in 2018 for the full-length Gaz Forth, a refined and richly textured collection featuring contributions from members of Abunai!, Purple Pilgrims, and Pigeons.
