In 1989 vocalist Matt Wright joined guitarist Tom Price, bassist Don Blackstone and drummer Joe Newton to form Gas Huffer. Their Seattle-rooted sound merges rootsy punk rock with equal debts to Neil Young and the Cramps. The debut single "Firebug" appeared that same year, and the Ethyl EP followed in 1990. Empty Records signed the group and released its first album, Janitors of Tomorrow, in 1991. Two years later the band issued Integrity, Technology and Service before switching to Epitaph for 1994’s One Inch Masters. Early 1996 saw a country nod when Gas Huffer contributed a track to the Willie Nelson tribute album Twisted Willie; less than a month afterward came the fourth album, The Inhuman Ordeal of Special Agent Gas Huffer. Spring 1998 brought their second Epitaph release, Just Beautiful Music, while the members also pursued surf rock under the name the Del-Lagunas, which issued several singles. By 2002 the band had moved to Estrus and delivered the Jack Endino-produced The Rest of Us. Estrus/Touch & Go then released Lemonade for Vampires in September 2005.
