Gigi Perez

Gigi Perez, performing under the name gigi, delivers earnest indie folk-rock marked by a brooding yet resolute tone that aligns with contemporaries such as Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. Her acoustic self-released debut single “Sometimes (Backwood)” climbed directly to the summit of streaming rankings in 2021, after which her major-label debut EP, How to Catch a Falling Knife, arrived in 2023 and expanded her palette through acoustic guitar, atmospheric synths, and full-band indie rock textures. The 2024 single “Sailor Song” then propelled her into mainstream visibility, becoming an international chart success.

Although born in New Jersey, Perez grew up primarily in Florida before establishing her career from Brooklyn. In the first months of 2021 she posted a portion of the ethereal acoustic track “Sometimes (Backwood)” on TikTok; the complete self-released recording quickly amassed tens of millions of streams. She soon joined Mogul Vision/Interscope Records, which issued additional introspective yet more elaborately produced singles including “The Man” and “When She Smiles” across 2022 while she supported tours by Noah Cyrus and d4vd. Those Interscope cuts were gathered on the Nashville-recorded EP How to Catch a Falling Knife, issued in April 2023. Early 2024 brought two further releases, “Normalcy” and “Please Be Rude,” yet “Sailor Song,” unveiled that June, marked her breakthrough. Following another TikTok surge, the track reached number ten on Billboard’s Rock and Alternative singles chart in the United States and registered on global rankings.
