Biography
Primarily active as an Italian composer of keyboard works, Cavazzoni produced sacred and instrumental pieces that encompassed masses, magnificats, ricercares, and hymns. His skill at the organ drew considerable praise, reflected in his instruction of the son belonging to the organ builder associated with Mantua’s Santa Barbara. He additionally directed the instrument’s reconstruction in that same city. Accounts of Cavazzoni and his compositions frequently appear under the alternate names Girolamo d’Urbino or Hieronymo d’Urbino.
