Biography
With her breezy hypnotic vocals, Bermondsey native Aria Wells crafts smoky soundscapes and spiritual anthems under the alias Greentea Peng, weaving genre-spanning influences into a hazy take on contemporary neo-soul. The artist’s genre-hopping debut album, Man Made, surfaced in 2021, and she followed it with the 2022 mixtape GREENZONE 108. Soon after came collaborations with Tricky, Nightmares on Wax, and the late Lee “Scratch” Perry on the track “100lbs of Summer,” while further singles that fused neo-soul, breakbeats, and rap paved the way for her 2025 long-player, Tell Dem It’s Sunny.
Wells borrowed her alias from a box of Green Tea Seng purchased in Peru, appending “Peng” to lend a touch of U.K. flavor. While staying in Mexico, London’s Aria Wells launched her musical path by delivering Lily Allen’s “Smile” at an open-mike night, which led local band Los Hedonistas to recruit her for a 2015 tour. Back in London she began shaping a debut EP, issuing woozy early singles such as “Moonchild” and “Loving Kind” in 2018. Drawing on a broad palette of influences and her layered, drifting vocals, she introduced listeners to what she calls “psychedelic R&B”; the complete EP, Sensi, arrived later that year and folded in elements of dub reggae and hip-hop within her smoky, introspective style.
A feature on the COLORS platform marked a turning point, propelling her 2019 single “Downers” to global audiences and generating multi-million streaming gains across her catalog. That momentum supported the release of her second EP, Rising, in 2019, which leaned further into psychedelic, electronically driven arrangements. In 2020 Wells turned her voice toward Britain’s charged sociopolitical climate, with “Ghost Town” mourning London’s shifting character and “Revolution” reflecting the unrest sweeping her homeland. By 2021 she was prepared to issue a larger statement, unveiling the full-length Man Made that June; the album expanded her reach by folding in stronger strains of jazz and contemporary hip-hop. The psychedelic rock-inflected mixtape GREENZONE 108 followed in 2022, prompting reworked collaborations with Nightmares on Wax, Tricky, and goddard.
Greentea Peng opened 2024 with contributions to the posthumously issued Lee “Scratch” Perry album King Perry, including the single “100lbs of Summer” and the additional track “Jah People in Blue Sky.” Mid-year she joined rapper Fliptrix on “Cosmic Scenes,” then closed the year with her own breakbeat-driven singles “TARDIS (hardest)” and “One Foot.” Both tracks appeared on her second album, Tell Dem It’s Sunny, which surfaced on AWAL in March 2025.
