Biography
Vermont-based singer/songwriter Greg Freeman crafts expansive indie rock laced with fractured vocals. His self-released and self-recorded debut album, I Looked Out, appeared in mid-2022.
Deeply embedded in Burlington, Vermont’s thriving indie community, Freeman contributed his instrumental and production talents to multiple bands and solo projects even as he developed original songs. Solo efforts first took shape in 2020; across the following years he assembled the songs that would form his own debut. Fellow musicians assisted in capturing the recordings that became I Looked Out. Blending wide-screen Americana with noisy indie rock, the album displays the same fragility, expanse, and intensity associated with Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, and the late Jason Molina. Issued on a limited cassette through Bud Tapes in 2022, the record was followed by extensive U.S. live performances that steadily grew Freeman’s audience. In 2024 he signed with Canvasback and Transgressive for a reissue of his debut, and an expanded edition of I Looked Out was released in late 2024.
