Grupo Fundo de Quintal, also known as Fundo de Quintal, originated inside the Bloco do Cacique as the originators of the pagode style. The ensemble launched its professional trajectory in 1980, earning multiple honors that encompassed nine Sharp awards, Brazil’s premier accolade in popular music. By 2000 the collective had issued nineteen albums whose combined sales reached several million units, many certified gold or platinum. Their compositions further supplied themes for several highly rated telenovelas. During the closing years of the 1970s, Beth Carvalho and her producer Rildo Hora—who later served as the group’s own producer—engaged Fundo de Quintal as backing musicians on the album Pé No Chão. Founding members included Almir Guineto, Jorge Aragão, Neoci, Sereno, Sombrinha, Ubirajara (Bira Presidente), and Ubirany, while Arlindo Cruz and Valter 7 Cordas participated as musicians in the initial line-ups. Among the ensemble’s signature recordings are “Vai Na Conversa Dela,” “E Eu Não Fui Convidado,” “Só Pra Contrariar,” “Boca Sem Dente,” “Miudinho,” “Parabéns Pra Você,” “Malandro Sou Eu,” “Andei, Andei,” “Do Fundo do Nosso Quintal,” “Não Sonhando Eu Sou Feliz,” and “Tô Que Tô.”
