Carlos Dafé ranks among the foremost exponents of Brazilian soul music, with compositions interpreted by artists including Tânia Maria on "A Cruz" and Nana Caymmi on "Passarela," alongside a solo discography spanning six albums issued between 1977 and 1997. His earliest musical guidance came from his father, who imparted instruction on multiple instruments while acquainting him with the choro and samba traditions. During the 1960s, Dafé explored his vocal range by performing as a crooner across nightclubs in São Paulo and Rio. His debut solo release, Pra Que Vou Recordar, appeared in 1977. Drawing from the styles of Tim Maia and Cassiano, the suburban Carioca native from Vila Isabel cultivated a distinctive soul inflection that first emerged on the 1978 album Venha Matar Saudades, supported by Banda Black Rio. In 1994, the band Unidade Bop offered a fresh interpretation of his work.
