Hyldon emerged as a key figure carrying forward Brazil's soul tradition in the wake of Tim Maia, Cassiano, and Gerson King Combo. Having previously collaborated with Maia and played in Cassiano's group, he scored his debut success in 1975 via the ballad "Na Rua, na Chuva, na Fazenda," the title track of his initial LP, which also yielded the hit "Na Sombra de uma Árvore." Following a period of marginalization he stepped away from soul entirely to focus on children's music. Bands such as Kid Abelha and Jota Quest have since sparked fresh interest among younger listeners by covering "Na Rua, na Chuva, na Fazenda" and "As Dores do Mundo."
