Born in Austin, Texas, jazz vocalist Hailey Tuck headed to Europe in the mid-2010s to launch her recording career. Influenced by the contemporary styles of Madeleine Peyroux and Melody Gardot, she exited Baptist military school at 18 and settled in Paris, only to switch briefly to London in 2014 before heading back to Texas. That year she issued her self-titled debut EP on her own. During the next two years she followed with the EPs So in Love and Delancy Street, then began shaping her first full-length album. She joined forces with producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock) to cut the twelve-track Junk, which contained renditions of material by Pulp and Leonard Cohen plus numbers drawn from Cabaret and Leonard Bernstein.
