Biography
Hanna-McEuen consists of first cousins Jaime Hanna and Jonathan McEuen, whose identical twin mothers wed Nitty Gritty Dirt Band founders Jeff Hanna and John McEuen. The cousins performed and harmonized together throughout childhood before each pursued a professional path in music. After finishing high school, Hanna relocated to Nashville, where he worked as a session player and shared songwriting duties for the Mavericks. McEuen fronted his own groups and joined his father for frequent appearances at bluegrass festivals. Their initial notice as a duo came when their fathers asked them to handle lead vocals on “Lowlands,” a cut from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Vol. 3. The track received promotional focus, including a video, and prompted joint spots with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and at the Grand Ole Opry. Interest from country labels followed, resulting in Hanna-McEuen’s signing with MCA Nashville for their debut, self-titled album.
