Born on 30 January 1942 in Gräfelfing near Munich, Germany, she passed away on 8 June 1991 in Starnberg, Germany. An adolescent ballerina marked her initial entry into professional entertainment, after which magazine cover modeling and acting secured her recognition as Germany’s top television personality of 1961. Recording work pursued alongside these activities since 1959 had already produced chart entries that she incorporated into the vocal portion of her traveling cabaret performances. Selected in 1960 as Germany’s Song For Europe entrant, she performed ‘Wir Wollen Niemals Auseinandergehn’ (We Will Never Part), which placed second and became her biggest hit. Al Stillman’s English adaptation ‘Ring Of Gold’ attracted little attention in English-speaking markets. MGM nevertheless spotted her and cast her in the lead of the 1962 fantasy adventure Captain Sinbad, signaling the broad range that would define her path forward.
