Bata Illic

Bata Illic came into the world in 1939 in Yugoslavia, now recognized as present-day Serbia, yet his first attempts at singing did not occur until the mid-'60s, once a teaching career had already taken shape. An American embassy official based in Belgrade took notice and set up opportunities for Illic to appear at American clubs throughout Germany. His debut full-length, Mit Verbundeden Augen, arrived in 1968 and was succeeded by further albums such as Michaela, his most successful record, along with Meisterstücke. Although Illic kept a low profile for the greater part of the 1980s, renewed activity surfaced as the new millennium drew near, marked by appearances on German television shows and the issue of multiple greatest-hits compilations.
